This is a community art project -- a growing, learning, wonderful way to add beauty to the world around us.

Plant the seeds and enjoy them. Harvest them and spread the seeds amongst others next spring. From one plant thousands of seeds can be produced!!! That’s a lot of plants. Think of the possibilities!!

The sunflower is an excellent subject to photograph. I want to assemble as many of your photographs of these sunflowers as possible, from seedling to flower to seed.

Plant early to mid-May, 1" deep, 18" apart; locate in an area that receives plenty of direct sun and water well. Plant matures in 80 to 90 days. A sunflower is ready to harvest when the back begins to turn brown. Cut seed head with about a foot of stem attached and hang in a warm dry place.
